Farmers-Scientist Interaction Meet cum Input Distribution under DAPSC Scheme
The ICAR–National Institute of Animal Nutrition and Physiology (ICAR–NIANP), Bengaluru, organized a one-day Farmer–Scientist Interaction Meet cum Input Distribution Programme under the Development Action Plan for Scheduled Castes (DAPSC) scheme on 30th October 2025 at CVSc & AH, OUAT Bhubaneshwar Odisha, with a focus on scientific feeding practices and nutritional interventions for dairy cattle. The programme aimed to disseminate scientific knowledge on precision feeding, nutrient optimization and metabolic health management in dairy animals. A total of 40 Scheduled Caste dairy farmers actively participated in the programme and benefitted from the distribution of inputs (Veterinary and first aid kits, a 20-litre capacity plastic milk can, rubber mat 6*4 feet, Farmers bags, deworming boluses and Cattle type 1 pellet feed 175kg). The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Artabandhu Sahoo, Director, ICAR–NIANP, who stressed the pivotal role of strategic nutritional management in improving milk yield, reproductive efficiency and animal welfare, and emphasized the importance of micronutrient deficiencies and enhancing rumen microbial efficiency. He also underlined the need for hygienic milking practices and clean milk production protocols and distributed the input kits to the farmers. Prof. Bijay Kumar Patra, Director Dept. of VCC, CVSc & AH delivered the presidential address emphasizing systematic deworming procedures in livestock health management. Address by Dr. T. K. Mohanty, Retd. Pr. Scientist, ICAR-NDRI delivered a special importance of adopting modern reproductive technologies and augmenting reproductive effiency in dairy cattle. Address by Guest of Honour Prof. Susen Kumar Panda, Dean, CVSc & AH felicitated the gathering and elaborated on government schemes available for farmers. Dr. A. Mishra, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-NIANP, explained the procedures for profitable livestock farming and proposed the vote of thanks. The scientists interacted with farmers and expressed their satisfaction with the benefits extended to the Scheduled Caste beneficiaries under the DAPSC scheme, emphasizing the importance of such outreach programmes in promoting livestock-based livelihood enhancement. This event served as an effective platform for technology transfer and demonstrated ICAR–NIANP’s commitment to inclusive agricultural development through science-led interventions, representing a significant step in translating laboratory research into field-level impact and ensuring nutritional equity and productivity enhancement in smallholder dairy systems. The overall event was co-ordinated by Dr. Himanshu Behera M.Vsc Assisstant professor, for the successful farmer-scientist meet cum input distribution.
