Introduction

Maintaining an optimum rumen function for better fibre digestion is the key for producing quality milk and also for maintaining good reproductive health. The rumen microbes require certain most critical nutrients to digest fibre and produce quality microbial protein. A synchronized rumen environment will produce metabolites that will promote liver and uterine function. Our research results shown that 40-50% of the dairy animals under field condition have negative energy balance, low serum protein, higher blood urea nitrogen and deficiency of micronutrients. To address this problem, a special feed supplement was formulated and validated in large number of dairy animals. The special feed supplement (ReproFat+) contains critical macronutrients, essential macro and micro minerals and natural anti-oxidant. It is recommended to feed this supplement (250 gm per adult medium milk yielding dairy animal; 500 gm per adult high milk yielding animal per day), soon after feeding dry or green fodder. This will help in synthesis of milk with desired quality in terms of fat and solid not fat. Improved reproductive health due to feeding of this special supplement will allow the animal for proper estrus cycle and conception. Supplementation of this supplement to dairy cows in field condition has shown improvement in milk quality in 70% of cows (fat, SNF by 0.3 to 0.5 units) and milk yield by 0.4-0.5 lit per cow per day. Also, more than 60% cows responded positively in terms of reproductive parameters.

Cost: Benefit

Taking into consideration the cost of feeding this special supplement, duration of feeding and the benefits accrued in terms of improved milk quality, better fertility, additional calves and reduced Veterinary costs, the cost: benefit ratio is 1:9.7.
